Ah, UGG boots – the quintessential comfort footwear that’s become a staple in many a winter wardrobe. But before you dive into that cozy sheepskin embrace, a common question pops up: Do UGGs run big?
Drawing from my trysts with these snug wonders, I’ve navigated the size charts, listened to the advice of fellow UGG enthusiasts, and even braved the in-store try-on dance.
Here are just a few of the things I’ve learned.
What is UGG Made of?
The classic UGG boot is made from A-grade, double-faced sheepskin, lined with natural wool woven into a durable backing for a signature fluffy lining. The stomping bottom on the UGG is famous for giving extra comfort and grip on wet surfaces, making them great for cold winter mornings.
What makes UGG unique is the quality of its sheepskin. It undergoes extensive inspections to ensure its quality, requiring an “upright” thickness throughout to ensure durability and luxury. Throughout the process, the sheepskin is inspected six times so that only the finest material is cut.
Knowledge added:
UGG never uses sheepskins from sheep raised exclusively for the skin. Ugg works only with farmers who adhere to an animal welfare policy that prevents cruelty, mistreatment, and unethical sourcing and only uses sheepskins from sheep raised for the meat industry.
It means that sheepskins become a by-product that helps limit the environmental impact of overproduction in the livestock industry. To ensure this, they only source sheepskins from select tanneries in Australia, the US, Ireland, the UK, and Spain so that they can track the product and ensure ethics.
Do Uggs Run Big?
No!
Your UGGs should feel very snug the first time you wear them. Your toes should be close to the tip of the boot and not curled. Make sure your heel doesn’t slip when you walk.
People often say their UGGs feel “too small” when they first try them on, thinking they should buy a larger size to allow room for movement. Don’t be fooled! Wool compresses with weight, and when you put it on, it molds to the shape of your foot. Due to the nature of natural sheepskin, the suede outer layer will also become more comfortable the more you wear it. They should stretch about half their size.
It is part of the beauty of UGG boots and why they are so comfortable! They can mold in all the right places around your foot.
However, consider sizing up if you have wider, Greek, or taller feet.
● For those of you who are particular about your feet or calves, please note the best advice I can give is to try on UGG boots in the store to see if they fit you and your feet.
● If you are in between sizes, go for the smaller size, as the boots will become roomier over time as the lining flattens out. So, for example, if you are a size 7.5, choose a full-size 7.
What Size UGG Boots Should I Buy?
f you want a truly accurate fit, it’s best to properly measure your feet and compare them to the UGG-specific shoe size guide before purchasing a pair of UGG boots.
The official UGG size guide online recommends measuring your feet with a pencil, paper, and a ruler. It is the same method I use when measuring my feet (or helping others measure their feet!) ) as I have found it to be the most accurate way to get the correct measurements.
The instructions are as follows:
● The easiest way to measure your feet is to step barefoot on paper and mark a line at the back of your heel and the tip of your longest toe.
● Take off the foot and use a ruler or tape measure to determine how far apart the lines are (in inches).
● Measure both feet, as sizes may vary slightly, and select the highest measurement to determine your size.
After measuring, you can go to the website to find your size by looking for the corresponding size chart.
Your UGG is too big. What should you do?
If you bought a large UGG, you can try various tricks, like wearing thick socks to tighten your feet. Putting vinegar and water together is one of the best and fastest ways to make UGG boots smaller. You can also use some DIY methods. You will need a medium-sized bowl, water, old socks, and vinegar.
Another great way to get UGG boots to shrink is to dry the shoes in socks and hot water. The technique is the same as before, except that vinegar is not used. Also, certain materials are known to shrink when exposed to hot water.
Your UGGs are too small. What should you do?
If the heel is small, you may have problems inserting the heel into the UGG boot. However, it is important to avoid pulling, stretching, or bending the shoe excessively, as doing so may cause unwanted wrinkles or fabric breakage.
Before challenging your boots to a wrestling match, try the following actions:
● Gently insert your foot into the UGG boot until you reach the ankle seam.
● Put the bottom of the shoe on the ground.
● Grasp the sides of the UGG boot using the top seam.
● Gently insert the heel of the boot.
Avoid pressing the heel into or swinging the boot as much as possible to avoid damaging the shoe.
How Should I Care for My UGG?
The classic UGG boot is made of sheepskin, which is fragile when exposed to water.
Ideally, you want to avoid washing them.UGG Protective Spray helps prevent stains by creating a seal on the boots. While this won’t make them waterproof, it will help prevent water from penetrating the material and creating stains, discoloration, or fading.
For best results, spray your new UGGs thoroughly so they are wet but not soaked, then place them in a cool, well-ventilated area to air dry. Once that’s done, gently smooth out the material with a leather brush.
Repeat this operation from time to time to maintain protection.
Avoid using water for small marks and spots, and brush your shoes with a suede brush. It should remove any small mud marks that may be bothering you.
However, caution is advised if you feel it’s time for a thorough cleaning! Sheepskin and water are not good friends, so you’ll want to minimize soaking. For convenience, you can take your UGG to the dry cleaner or wash it at home;
● Place your UGG in a laundry bag and place it in the washing machine with your sheets or towels to soften the spin.
● Use only detergents free of fragrances and dyes, and keep them in a cold, delicate environment.
● Remove them from the machine as soon as the cycle is finished.
● Loosen the insides by hand and set them aside to air dry, returning periodically to fluff the insides.
It should help even out the color of the boots again and remove any spills, but avoid washing them until necessary.
Conclusion
Based on my personal experience, the UGG’s size fits me well. The cozy plush lining allows the UGGs to mold to your feet.
If you have skinny feet, going down a half-size from your normal shoe size will result in a perfect, cozy fit without unwanted slippage. Consider how you wear them – thicker socks may work better for you.
Whichever size you choose, wearing a pair of UGGs is like giving your feet a warm hug – perfect for those chilly moments when comfort is key.
